HealthHIV HIV Prevention Certified Provider™ Certification Program

Certification of the HIV Prevention Workforce

The HealthHIV HIV Prevention Certified Provider™ Certification Program is an online, self-paced CME accredited certification program composed of seven, 60-minute modules in HIV prevention detailing the pertinent clinical and practice information that clinicians need to effectively employ HIV prevention interventions.

As the only national program providing a certification of the HIV prevention workforce, participants who complete the program will have an understanding of the foundation of HIV epidemiology and policy in the United States, the provider’s role in identifying HIV risk and new cases, high impact strategies to prevent HIV through status-neutral-navigation, clinical guidelines to implement PrEP, and a framework of cultural humility that improves clients’ access to and retention in care.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants earn a certification recognizing their designation as an HIV Prevention Certified Provider (HIVPCP™) and receive a listing in the national online directory alongside thousands of other HIV Prevention Certified Providers. The curriculum is updated annually and more frequently as needed, based on approval of new biomedical interventions and the release of evidence-based practices.

Additional PrEP navigation training is available through the HealthHIV HIV PrEP Navigation Certification (HIVPNC) Program, which is the only certification program in PrEP navigation offered to providers and allied health professionals to deliver inclusive, affirming PrEP navigation services backed by current data and clinical best practices.

The Need for an HIVPCP

The 2019 Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America highlights increased HIV prevention efforts, including the need for more providers to prescribe pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), support clients with HIV in becoming virally suppressed, and deliver effective, comprehensive, culturally competent HIV prevention interventions. The HIVPCP Certification program prepares and educates primary care providers, HIV care providers (MD, DO, NP, PA), infectious disease specialists, internists, nurses, pharmacists, and other providers of care for patients at risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV, thereby expanding the HIV prevention workforce.
